Getting ready for starting uni can be overwhelming. This checklist breaks down everything you need to do before, during, and after your arrival to ensure a smooth start to your student life. From accommodation and finances to academics and social life, we’ve got you covered.
BEFORE YOU GO
- Read everything on your Welcome Website
- Confirm your accommodation arrangements (university halls, private rented or home stay)
- Sort out deposits and rent payments.
- Make a list of essential items to bring (bedding, kitchen, utensils, etc).
- Set a budget for living expenses (rent, food, bills, travel).

- Start online registration once you've received your email invite from Lancaster University (this will come from Lancaster, not UA92).
- Pack necessary items (clothes, toiletries, laptop, chargers, etc.).
- Check passport and visa requirements (if applicable).
- Arrange travel and accommodation for your journey to university.
- Check course details, timetables, and essential reading.
- Open a student bank account.
- Sort out student finance and any scholarships or bursaries.
- Check out the various student discount apps and website.
- Register with a GP (local doctor) as soon as possible.
- Check if you need any vaccinations or medical supplies.
Once you arrive
- Attend welcome and induction activities.
- Collect your student ID card.
- Find your way around campus.
- Explore your local area and find essential amenities (shops, banks, post office).
- Attend lectures and tutorials.
- Start making friends.
- Introduce yourself to our Student Experience Team at one of their drop-in sessions.
- Join relevant student clubs or societies.
- Decorate your room to make it feel like home.
- Explore the city and its attractions.
