SCIENCE & INDUSTRY MUSEUM

The Science and Industry Museum sits at the heart of the city centre and is the perfect educational day out if you’re wanting to do something a bit different. See the world’s oldest surviving passenger railway station, inventions that changed the world and the world class textiles gallery. There’s countless interactive exhibits, and free admission means it’s a great way to spend a day out on a budget.

Heaton Park

Whether it’s a Saturday Parkrun, an afternoon stroll or Parklife Festival in June, Heaton Park has got you covered. Rain or shine, the park is a great place to meet up with friends of get some peace and quiet. With four cafes, there’s plenty of options for food and drink, and if you get bored of walking there’s a free animal centre to visit.

HOME

HOME Cinema, just a short walk from Oxford Road Station, is a great place to go if you’re looking for something a little different. They offer a variety of independent, foreign language and art-house films that you wouldn’t find at your average cinema. You can get a monthly pass for £18, which allows you to watch as many films as you’d like, or tickets for screenings are £5 for students. There’s also a theatre and regular art exhibitions.

Frog & Bucket Comedy Club

Frog & Bucket is an award-winning comedy club in the Northern Quarter. The club has seen performances from now household names, such as Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas and John Bishop. Go and see their Barrel of Laughs show on Fridays and Saturdays, or their Beat the Frog amateur show on Mondays (you can even sign up to take part yourself!).
